In The Groove
The early 1990s Philadelphia dance and entertainment television show “Teen Videos” evolved into “In The Groove,” which eventually reached national syndication. In The Groove also gave birth to “In The Groove – Live on Air!,” a radio show spinoff that aired on WTTM 920 AM in the Bucks County and Philadelphia, PA area throughout 1996. Part of both the TV and radio versions were hosts Jeff Fyke and Rachael Fyke, with “Mr. DJ” Michael T. Foy spinning the tunes and lightening the mood for both shows. Radio episodes featured additional hosts like Charlie Gracie Jr., Erik Johnson, and “DJ Andy B” (a.k.a. Andrew Beauchamp), while TV episodes also featured Erik, Steve Bartell (a.k.a. Jug E. Fresh from Philadelphia 1990s radio hits powerhouse, Q102), and many more talented folks from the Philadelphia region.

Part 3: The Wildwood Jersey Shore pilot episode of Teen Videos concludes! Up first, Jeff Fyke and Leslie Toplin host a segment featuring the rise of Miss New Jersey 1995, Heather Makris. Heather went on to become 2nd runner up in the Miss America pageant that year.
Next up, Rachael Fyke hosts a discussion segment with Father Joseph Mungari, featuring Teen Videos show regulars Megan Davis and Kate Rizzo. A viewer from Rome, NY writes in seeking advice after his parents have divorced. What should he do? Father Joe and company weigh in.
I guess this segment is pretty much the Leslie show, because next, Leslie bids Teen Videos farewell before she’s off to college! The program closes out with some more shout outs and of course, the show credits, featuring dancing and “down the shore” sights.

Part 2: Back at the Jersey Shore, back in Wildwood, back in the day! Jug E. Fresh and Jeff Fyke host a Music Review segment and a Babyface club remix of “When Will I See You Again?” Enjoy plenty of dancing footage of old school regulars Kate, Sladjana, Leslie, Ed. and a pre-out of his shell Erik Johnson!
“Dear Teen Videos” is next. Rach, Jeff, and Jug E. read viewer letters from Michelle and Joanne. Does Jeff like Maria? Will Jug E. and Rach ever get together? Oh, and don’t forget about the teen pledge! Classic line from Melissa: “blood is thicker than a girlfriend!”
There’s also a quick message from who I believe may have been the mayor of North Wildwood at the time. He’s uncredited unfortunately, so it’s tough to say for sure! Maybe some of you out there can help with that mystery.

“Teen Videos” was the program that spawned In The Groove. Many of the program’s participants were essentially the same. One of the key differences between the two programs were the taping locations. While In The Groove was recorded on the road at Bronko Bill’s/Bronko’s (and later Sportland in Langhore, PA), Teen Videos was recorded mostly at our TV studio in Northeast Philadelphia. Every now and then we’d hit the road for special episodes, just like this. Before MTV discovered how great the Jersey Shore was, the Teen Videos crew was there having fun and dancing all the way back in 1994!
Here in Part 1, you’ll see Jeff Fyke, Rachael Fyke, Jug E. Fresh (who later called himself Steve Bartell) of Philly’s Q102 radio, and Michael T. Foy (with no “Mr. DJ” nickname) right on the beach. You’ll also see show regulars Erik, Leslie, and Michelle, along with show friends Matt, Kirk, Kyle, Paul, and Kenny!
